Description:  This painting was inspired by a visit to South Africa, and memories of wonderfully mild starlit evenings round an open braai fire, abelone (perlemoen) shells, and the delicate smell of the perlemoen and crayfish dishes being prepared.

(Perlemoen - also commonly known as Abalone - is one of the sea's most sumptuous offerings. This delicacy is not commonly found, however, owing to its endangered nature and costly price tag.  During the Perlemoen season in South Africa, locals and holiday makers gather at popular sites to pick and enjoy their legal quota of this delicacy.)
